The story starts with a seemingly normal conference, where seven year old Chris Matheson meets Mercedes Livingston, gets a signed copy of her book, and hears the last thing she said – she’s working on the greatest mystery ever.
Forty years later, the Matheson family’s friend Shannon Blakely dies, presumably of natural causes. And here’s where the mystery starts. She leaves behind a cryptic letter to Chris, containing a mystery he must solve, a cold case that happened forty years ago.
The characters are all well-developed and the plot is intricately woven, like a very detailed spiderweb. Every single detail is relevant to the plot, and is explained thoroughly by the end. There are stolen identities, unraveled connections and hidden motives everywhere.
This book is a fast-paced thriller, with every page full of evidence and circumstance, no scene is just a filler here. I suggest that you read this book in one sitting, because there are many characters and many hidden connections that will make your head spin.
All in all, it’s a wonderful thriller that will have you feverishly turning the pages to get to the bottom of the mystery. There are several red herrings, unexpected twists, and no one is who they seem to be.
